It's been a productive weekend in crafting terms. The first test knit of my new choker knitting pattern is finished, blocked and I have finally decided on a name for this design. Looking at the lace pattern motif, which is achieved by a series of elongated cable knit stitches, I was somehow reminded of the Jera rune, the twelfth rune from the Elder Futhark, which in its literal translation means ' (good) year' or 'harvest'.
Made up of two separate charachters, which appear to spin around one another from the centre, this rune symbolises connection and perpetual movement, representing the recurring seasons and the natural cycle of perpetual change at a steady pace and regular intervals.

With the vernal equinox now behind us, spring is at the time of writing this post in full swing. Appropriate timing and isn't there a better way to celebrate the arrival of spring with a seasonally-themed knit?
As mentioned above, the choker pictured in these images is the first test knit of this design. After seeing the finished piece draped around the dummy, I felt that it was slightly too wide. As I was not entirely happy with the width, I modified the lace edges on either side slightly, resulting in a narrower piece. The second, narrower version of the Jera choker is currently blocking. Unfortunately, this has slightly delayed the publication of the new pattern, which I was hoping to post over the weekend.

The pattern for the Jera Choker will be available on the blog, once the second choker is blocked and I have taken images of the finished piece. Bear with...please :-)
