After a long period of absence, I'm finally back attending to my many craft projects and I thought it would be a good idea to make a start with the release of my long overdue Monster High doll dress pattern.
The mini pencil dress, which will fit a Monster High doll measuring approximately 25cm, required less than 5 grams of yarn. For the pink Monster High dress I used Araucania Botany Lace, which is a 4 ply fingering weight sock yarn. For the other dress, I utilised leftover scraps of 4 ply Knitglobal sock yarn (shade: plum). Any sock yarn with similar attributes will be suitable for this pattern.
The construction of the dress allows to easily adjust the design when fitting the dress on the doll whilst knitting. Knitted seamlessly in the round from the bottom up, the dress is secured at the back of the doll's neck with the help of two i-cords. The simple design can be customised by adjusting both the length of the dress itself and the length of the i-cords.

When knitting doll and other miniature projects in the round, the hardest parts are casting the stitches on securely, ensuring they don't slip and twist when divided between the double pointed needles, as well as knitting the first few rounds neatly, thus getting the project off to a good start. To achieve a firm cast-on edge and a neat appearance, I recommend using the German Twisted Cast On.

Project Notes
Materials & Tools
- 4 ply Sock Yarn (app. 4-6g)
- Two Beads (for securing the I-Cords)
- 3mm Double-Pointed Needles
- Scissors
- Safety Pin
- Darning Needle or Sewing Needle (for sewing in ends and securing the beads to the i-cord)
Set-Up
- Cast-on 30 stitches using the German Twisted Cast-On.
- Divide the stitches evenly between three double-pointed needles. Place stitch marker to mark beginning of round.
- Join in the round - knit the first stitch of the first round with the live yarn. Knit the second stitch with the shorter yarn string left over from casting on. Slightly tug on both strings, ensuring the stitches are sitting securely on the needle. Knit to end of round with the live yarn.
- Next Row: k 30 sts
- Increase Row: [kfb, k8, kfb] x 3 (36 stitches)
- Continue knitting until the piece measures approximately 4cm. (At this stage check fit to see whether the dress fits comfortably around the doll's hips. Once happy, you are ready to shape the upper part of the dress.)

Shaping the Torso and Decreasing
- Decrease Row: [k2tog, k8, ssk] x 3 (30 stitches)
- Continue knitting for two rounds and check the fit again. Once happy, proceed to decrease the stitches as below.
- Decrease Row: [k2tog, k6, ssk] x 3 (24 stitches)
- Provided the fit is right, it's now time to bind off the back of the dress.
- Shaping the back: bo 8sts, k to end (16 stitches)
- p 16
- Decrease Row: k7, k2tog, k7 (15 stitches)
- p 15
- Decrease Row: k2tog, k11, ssk (13 stitches)
- p 13
- Decrease Row: k2tog, k9, ssk (11 stitches)
- p 11
- Decrease Row: k3, k2tog, k1, ssk, k3 (9 stitches)
- p 9
- Decrease Row: k2tog, k5, ssk (7 stitches)
- p 7
- Decrease Row: k3, bo 1st, k3 (6 stitches)
Working the I-Cords
- After checking the fit, it's now time to start with the I-cords. Purl the first three stitches and place the remaining live stitches on a safety pin. Proceed to knit an I-cord with the first three stitches. Once the I-cord measures approximately 10cm, bind off and attach bead at end.
- Reattach yarn to remaining live stitches on safety pin, purl 3 stitches and proceed to knit the second I-cord following instructions above.
Finishing
- Sew-in all yarn ends and block the dress.
Enjoy!
