Madeline Hatter, First Chapter Doll - The Tanned Version
There have been a few new additions to the doll house this past week. In the lot of pre-loved dolls that moved in was a Madeline Hatter Ever After High First Chapter doll. I already have this Madeline doll in the collection (the joys of buying used lots) and wasn't paying too much attention to her initially.
However, upon closer inspection and when compared to the other Madeline doll in my collection, the new Madeline appears to have a somewhat darker complexion. In fact, she looks like she has been to the tanning salon when comparing her skin tone to my other Ever After High Madeline Hatter First Chapter doll.
There are also subtle differences to the way her eyes are painted. For want of a better description, it appears that her green eyes are more vivid as a result of the darker skin tone and a larger highlight underneath her pupil, whilst the other Madeline seems to have an altogether matte, flesh-coloured complexion and a less playful expression.
As the new Madeline doll was part of a bundle of dolls, which I purchased used and without the original box, I have no further information other than the date and production country on her back. According to this, she rolled off the Mattel production line in Indonesia back in 2012. The same applies to my other Madeline Hatter doll. She, too, was produced in Indonesia back in 2012.
Of course, it is entirely possible that this Madeline was only dressed in the First Chapter factory outfit and, in fact, is not the First Chapter doll. Yet, the outfit she was wearing when she arrived was the First Chapter dress and tights. Apart from missing one shoe, her clothing was complete. I also don't think that the differences in appearance are the result of modifications undertaken by her previous owner.
I am not a specialist, but her make-up and body seemed completely intact and untouched. The more I look at this Tangerine Dream Madeline (as I call her now), I seem to develop a preference for her skin tone and overall look.
Picot Cocktail Dress Pattern for Monster High and Ever After High Dolls
With one Madeline Hatter doll already dressed in her original outfit, I decided to give the Tangerine Madeline a bit of a makeover and found just the perfect hand-knit dress for her.
A while ago I made a picot cocktail dress for the Monsters. (The knitting pattern for the Picot MH / EAH dress is available here.) The fuchsia mohair version of this dress was never really Frankie Stein and seems to have been waiting for Madeline's arrival. All she needs now is a nice little stole to go with the dress to complement her look.
Doll Wig Making for MGA Moxie Girlz Dolls
In other doll-related news, I am busy making a wig for another new addition, an MGA Moxie Girlz doll. As I am not really collecting Moxies and I only received her as part of a bundle, I have no idea who she is.
The hair of this doll was completely beyond repair when she arrived and I decided to remove it and replace it with an acrylic yarn wig, following the same method I use for the Monster High doll wigs. (More on my doll wig making is available here and here.)

The wig cap for this Moxie is now finished and I am off to make a batch of wefts.
The hair removal on the Moxie doll took a long time, but at least her head was not full of glue and 'beheading' her was a surprisingly simple and painless affair.
The same can unfortunately not be said about Apple White below...
This Ever After High Apple White doll also arrived used and her hair requires some serious glue removal treatment, which will have to wait until the weekend. Following the removal of her head, glue was actually falling out of her head in big chunks.
In part this is good news, as it can no longer seep into her hair. But it also highlights the insane amount of glue Mattel is depositing needlessly into the heads of their dolls. More on Mattel factory glue removal and doll hair care to follow.
