Monster High: Knee Highs

Free Monster High Knee High Stocking Knitting Pattern

After a pair of Monster High doll leggings and tights, it was high time to knit a pair of knee high stockings for the Monsters Highs.

The knee high stockings are knitted seamlessly from the top-down and finished off at the toes with kitchener stitch.

For the knee highs in the images I used Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush mercerised cotton yarn, which I have also been using for the two lace chokers, which I have been working on recently. The knee high pattern is, of course, also suitable for 4 or 3 ply sock yarn.

To achieve snug-fitting stockings, I recommend checking the fit on the doll frequently to see whether it's necessary to insert or omit knit rows between the decreases and at the very end of the pattern, before completing the stocking with kitchener stitch.

Materials and Tools
  • approximately 5g of Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush mercerised cotton yarn
  • 2mm Double-Pointed Needles x 4
  • Stitch Marker
  • Scissors
  • Darning Needle (for kitchener stitch), Crochet Hook (for sewing in ends and tidying up)

Monster High Knee Highs - Pattern Instructions

Set-Up:
  • Cast on 16 stitches and divide on three 2mm double-pointed needles (dpns).
  • Join in the round by placing the first stitch from the first dpn onto the third dpn and pull the last stitch from the third dpn over the first stitch and onto the first dpn.
  • Place marker to mark the beginning of the round.

Working the Calf of the Sock up to the Ankle:

Row 1: k all stitches, slipping the marker at the beginning of the round (16 stitches)

Row 2: sl1, k1, psso, k to last 2 stitches, k2tog (14 stitches)

Row 3: k all stitches (14 stitches)

Continue knitting in stockinette stitch for another 10 rows (knitting throughout) until the piece has reached the doll’s ankle.

Foot Decreases:

Over the next few rows, whilst the decreases will be worked, it's advisable to keep checking the fit on the doll. If you notice that you require more rows for added length, insert these between the decrease rows after checking the fit.

Row 13: k to last 4 sts before end of round, sl1, k1, psso, k2tog (12 stitches)

Row 14: k all stitches (12 stitches)

Row 15: k to last 4 sts before end of round, sl1, k1, psso, k2tog (10 stitches)

Row 16: k all stitches (10 stitches)

Row 17: k to last 4 sts before end of round, sl1, k1, psso, k2tog (8 stitches)

Row 18: k all stitches (8 stitches)

Row 19: k to last 4 sts before end of round, sl1, k1, psso, k2tog (6 stitches)

Row 19: k all stitches (6 stitches)

Checking the fit, continue knitting in stockinette stitch until the knitted fabric almost entirely engulfs the doll's foot as shown in the picture below.

When the doll's foot is comfortably covered by the knitted fabric, switch to two double-pointed knitting needles and align them parallel to one another, preparing to bind the last remaining stitches off in kitchener stitch.

Proceed to knit the second stocking following instructions above.
